Creative Learning Dance Project, 2025

Witness the Joy at our public presentations! You will be moved!

About this project: Engaging Older Adults through Contemporary Dance was a 10-class series of movement arts classes that took place between October 3 - December 13, 2025. Adapting ballet, modern, jazz, and Broadway dance language with yoga and gymnastics principles, we worked together in nurturing and expanding upon each older adult's capabilities -- while providing joy and human connection through the arts and public performance. These videos show the creative learning and teaching techniques we discovered along the way over our 3-month journey together and the choreographed dance pieces that the teaching artists and students co-created.

Videography by Ed Gonzalez and Mike Ballard. Video editing by Paul Keoni Chun.

Each participant shared a song that inspired them to move in ways unique to themselves. Their joy is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!

Ballet Class … Deconstructed!

Definitely not your average ballet class. Who knew ballet could be so accessible, unique, and fun?!

It’s an inspirational song that reminds us that though life may be full of sadness and regrets, it’s important that “while we’re still alive … Live.” This will make you laugh and cry at the same time!
